Runescape Theories

Intro

I am an avid player of Oldschool Runescape. I've been playing Runescape since I was a kid in the mid-2000s and returned to it years ago as an adult to play "Oldschool," the version of Runescape that I remember. Or at least, the version that's based on the Runescape I remember. Oldschool has added much to the game that wasn't there back in 2007. They back ported quests, bosses, and content from later itterations of the game, added wholely original content, and have even recently released a brand new skill to the game, totally unique to Oldschool, Sailing.

I've been on and off the game for years, playing casually at times and hard core at others, following my own path through the game's vast swathes of content. I've recently progressed far enough to do some of the hardest quests in the game and can finally access a lot of exciting content. This has opened up a lot of fascinating storylines with mountains of lore to uncover and I'm determined to uncover it all. To help record what I learn and what I theorize, I'll be collecting my ideas and research here. Enjoy and if I've got a message box set up when you see this, feel free to add your own thoughts on these ideas.

What the hell is going on with the Shadow Realm???

Desert Treasure II!

A Night at the Theater/Theater of Blood (Sotetseg)

During "A Night at the Theater, Verzik Vitur comments on control over the Shadow Realm when Ranis is showing off Sotetseg. She then says "That takes me back to the old empire" and Ranis Drakan confirms that as his inspiration despite his experiments being fruitless. It's no secret at this point that Zaros' empire did a lot of meddling with the Shadow Realm. After all, one of the Ancient Magick elements is literally "shadow." However, to what degree Zaros meddled with the Shadow Realm and to what degree the Shadow Realm meddled with the empire is unknown. This comment adds to the growing pile of evidence that there's a very deep connection between Zaros' empire and the Shadow Realm.
